Government and library open data using Creative Commons toolsThere’s been a lot of talk (including from government) about the importance of open data and it’s unlocked potential to drive a digital economy. I personally think there is a lot of weight in these arguments, although this is (in my opinion) quite a hard argument to sell on the inside of #localgov. One of the biggest reasons for this is that data owners simply don’t understand the value of (or care too much about) the data they own. There’s also the issue that some individuals do recognise the value of their data and will try to prevent it being opened in case it enables somebody else to do their job better or cheaper (a particular issue as services look at different operating models).
